Lone Tree is a Home Rule Municipality located in Douglas County; it is part of Denver’s “south metro” area. The city of Denver was founded in 1858 near the foothills of the Rocky Mountains as a gold mining town but began supplying mines in the mountains shortly after. It was named the territorial capital in 1867 and the state capital when Colorado joined the U.S. in 1876.

Today, Denver is the most populous city in Colorado and home to an urban population of more than two million. Its famous nickname, the “Mile High City,” is derived from its elevation above sea level of exactly one mile.
